A slimmer chassis usually means less room to absorb a knock, and that held true for the original Air's return condition. Expect our grading on the Air 2 to pay particular attention to frame and back-glass damage for the same reason, once we're assessing real handsets.
We're anchoring today's Air 2 quote to the current iPhone Air rather than a numbered or Pro model, because it's the closest thing on sale to what the Air 2 is actually expected to replace. That anchor comes off the moment real Air 2 pricing exists.
Battery health
Our cut off is 90 per cent, so at or above that there is no deduction at all. Below it we take off what a genuine replacement costs us rather than calling the iPhone Air 2 faulty. Apple's own 80 per cent mark is a repair threshold, not a resale one.
The first iPhone Air made a genuine trade-off between thinness and battery capacity, and how well the Air 2 improves on that will shape how it's graded once we're handling real units. We're not assuming Apple has solved it before the phone exists.
Battery life was the most common complaint about the original Air, fairly or not, and that's exactly the kind of thing that could move trade-in demand for the Air 2 sharply either way. We'd rather flag that honestly now than promise an improvement Apple hasn't announced.
Whether it powers on
A device that boots and passes our checks is worth more than one that does not, but a dead handset is still worth telling us about rather than binning.
A slim handset that still powers on and passes our checks will always grade above one that's stopped responding, and the Air 2 won't be any different. If an Air of yours has gone completely dead, we'll still buy it, just not through the form on this page: that needs the phone to switch on before it can grade it. iCloud or Google account lock
We can only buy your iPhone Air 2 once it is signed out of iCloud, with Find My switched off.
Do the sign out before an Air goes in the post, not after. Once it's out of your hands you're relying on remembering to do it from another device or from iCloud, and a handset that turns up here still locked just sits waiting while we chase you. Find My off, Apple Account signed out, then pack it.

Three things worth knowing before you sell anything to anyone, not just to us.
The device has to be yours to sell
We cannot buy a device that is still under contract or on finance, because until it is paid off you are not yet its legal owner. We also cannot buy a device that is part of an ongoing insurance claim, or that has been reported lost or stolen.

We record name, address and ID on every purchase
We record the name and address of everyone we buy from, and check them against photo ID and proof of address. HMRC requires it: buying from a private seller, we have to raise the purchase invoice ourselves and it must carry your details. Bring the documents into the shop and show us, or send a photo if the device is reaching us another way.
It protects you as much as us: the purchase can always be traced back to a genuine sale rather than an anonymous one. A photocard driving licence showing your current address covers both documents on its own.

When does the iPhone Air 2 come out?
Spring 2027 is our current expectation, following on from the original Air's release, but Apple hasn't set or confirmed a date.
How much will an iPhone Air 2 trade in for?
We don't have real Air 2 figures yet, since the phone hasn't launched. Right now we quote against today's iPhone Air value, and that's replaced with genuine Air 2 pricing as soon as Apple announces the device.
Will the iPhone Air 2 trade in for more than the original iPhone Air?
Too early to say. It depends on what Apple actually changes, particularly around battery life, and we won't promise a number until we've seen the real specs and the actual demand for it.
Does a thinner phone get graded more harshly?
Not harshly, but differently. On the original Air we look closely at the frame and the back, because a slim body has less material to absorb a knock. We'd expect to assess an Air 2 the same way, and that's not a judgement on the phone, just where damage tends to show up on one.
My iPhone Air is damaged. Should I have it repaired or sell it as it is?
Both are on the table with us, since mendmyi repairs handsets alongside buying them. If you want to carry on using it, having it put right is the obvious move. If you were already planning to move on when the Air 2 appears, there's rarely much sense in fixing a phone you're about to part with, and we'll take it damaged.
How long will you honour a figure you have quoted me?
Fourteen days from the point the device has been inspected and the offer confirmed. The window exists so you can weigh us up against anyone else without the figure moving while you do it. It applies to handsets we can actually get hold of, so for the Air 2 that starts once the phone is out.
