Screen condition

Body and connector
Dents, scuffs and cracks to the casing are graded as part of the overall condition. A cracked back or a bent frame lowers the offer but rarely rules a device out.
The standard iPhone line is where most of our trade-ins come from year to year, simply because it's what most people actually buy. We expect the 18 to follow that pattern, which is also why getting its pricing right from day one matters more here than on the lower-volume models.
A Spring 2027 launch would put the standard iPhone 18 on a different release cycle from the Pro models arriving the previous autumn. If that timing holds, you'd be trading in a phone that's genuinely newer, not just newer-numbered, than an 18 Pro bought the year before.
We're anchoring against the iPhone 17 rather than the pricier Pro models, because the standard line has historically tracked its own predecessor's value far more closely than it tracks the Pro tier. Expect this page's numbers to move once the real 18 exists.
Battery health
Our cut off is 90 per cent, so at or above that there is no deduction at all. Below it we take off what a genuine replacement costs us rather than calling the iPhone 18 faulty. Apple's own 80 per cent mark is a repair threshold, not a resale one.
Nothing about chip, camera or battery life is confirmed for the standard iPhone 18 yet, and we won't state any of it as settled until Apple does. This page sticks to what we actually know: an expected window and a starting price built from last year's equivalent.
Whether it powers on
A device that boots and passes our checks is worth more than one that does not, but a dead handset is still worth telling us about rather than binning.
A phone that's stopped booting altogether is still worth more than the bin, and we'd sooner see it than have you assume nobody wants it. There's one practical catch: our online quote can't put a number on a device that won't come on, because grading it starts with switching it on. iCloud or Google account lock
We can only buy your iPhone 18 once it is signed out of iCloud, with Find My switched off.
Wiping a phone and signing it out of an Apple Account aren't quite the same job, and it's the second one people miss. Erase it from Settings and it signs itself out; force a reset through a computer and Find My can still be active afterwards, which stops us testing or transferring it. Worth checking on whatever you're planning to trade in when the 18 lands.

Turn off Find My before you hand over the iPhone 18. A device still signed in cannot be bought from you.

The device has to be yours to sell
We cannot buy a device that is still under contract or on finance, because until it is paid off you are not yet its legal owner. We also cannot buy a device that is part of an ongoing insurance claim, or that has been reported lost or stolen.

We record name, address and ID on every purchase
We record the name and address of everyone we buy from, and check them against photo ID and proof of address. HMRC requires it: buying from a private seller, we have to raise the purchase invoice ourselves and it must carry your details. Bring the documents into the shop and show us, or send a photo if the device is reaching us another way.
It protects you as much as us: the purchase can always be traced back to a genuine sale rather than an anonymous one. A photocard driving licence showing your current address covers both documents on its own.

Once your device is checked in, it is fully wiped and factory reset at our shop before it goes anywhere else. Nothing of yours is left behind on it.

How much will an iPhone 18 trade in for?
We don't have a real figure yet, since the phone hasn't launched. In the meantime we quote against today's iPhone 17 value, and that gets replaced the moment the 18 is announced and we've seen the actual specs.
Is it possible to agree a price before the 18 is released?
Not this far out, no. Locking a number in against a phone that doesn't exist yet would just be a guess with a promise attached. We will buy it from launch day at a price based on the real handset.
Would a Spring 2027 iPhone 18 be newer than an iPhone 18 Pro?
On the reported timings, yes. The Pro models are expected in autumn 2026 and the standard 18 the following spring, which would make the standard model the more recently released of the two. That's come from reports and not from anything Apple has said, so treat it as an expectation.
Am I better off having my current iPhone repaired than selling it towards an 18?
