iPhone Duo repairs: a new shape for us too

Apple announced its first folding iPhone on 9 September 2026 and called it the iPhone Duo. Pre-orders open on 16 October and it reaches customers on 23 October. If you followed the run-up, this is the handset that spent two years being called the iPhone Fold in leaks, including on this page; Duo is the real name and the only one Apple uses.

It opens to a 7.6-inch inner display at 1878 by 2670 pixels, with a 5.4-inch outer screen at 1398 by 2034 for when it is closed. The selfie camera on the inner display sits under the panel and only becomes visible when it is in use. The frame is titanium, with Ceramic Shield front and back, and it comes in star white and night sky, from 256GB up to 2TB.

We will be repairing it from release day, and we are not going to pretend it is a solved problem. A folding iPhone is a genuinely new object for us as much as for Apple.

What changes with a foldable

A hinge and an inner display take a different kind of daily wear to a standard iPhone screen, so once we are handling real units, expect hinge feel and inner-screen creasing to weigh more heavily in how we grade a repair job than they do on a slab iPhone. We have no fold-specific repair data yet, so every iPhone Duo repair is quoted individually rather than priced on this page, anchored for now to what the equivalent iPhone 17 Pro Max repair costs.

Two screens, two different repairs

The Duo carries two displays, and they will not be one job or one price. The outer 5.4-inch screen takes the knocks a normal phone screen takes and should be the more familiar repair of the two. The inner 7.6-inch folding panel is the part with no precedent in anything we have worked on, and it is also the one with a camera underneath it. We will say plainly what each costs once we have done both, rather than quoting a single screen price that hides the difference.

Face ID and part-pairing on a foldable

Face ID sits in its own sensor housing, and a screen or battery repair does not touch it; that principle holds regardless of form factor. We cannot yet say how Apple part-pairs components on a first-generation folding iPhone, and its two displays make that a more interesting question than usual. We will explain any "Unknown Part" implications honestly once we have actually opened one.

Why we are not offering a cheaper screen yet

Nobody outside Apple has had an iPhone Duo long enough to build a lower-cost copy of either of its displays; that kind of part only turns up once a device has been in the wild for a good while. So at release, original-quality is the only screen we will fit, and given how different a folding display is from anything we have repaired before, we would rather wait for a properly proven alternative than rush one in.

Identifying an iPhone Duo

It ships as A3447, A3719, A3720 or A3721 by region, and reports itself as iPhone19,4. Settings, then General, then About. There is only one Duo model this generation, so unlike the two Pro handsets there is nothing to confuse it with.

Booking a repair from release day

The same options apply as for every model we work on: walk in to our Haverhill shop, post the device to us, or arrange a free local collection. We will only be able to confirm realistic turnaround times once we have repaired real iPhone Duo units, and we would rather tell you that now than promise a same-day figure we cannot back up. Whatever work we do carries our standard 12-month warranty on parts and labour.
