iPad Air 11-inch (M2) Repairs in Haverhill

2024 · A2902, A2903, A2904

Screen and battery repairs for the 2024 Air, with a free diagnostic first and a 12-month warranty on parts and labour.

What an iPad Air 11-inch (M2) repair costs

A screen replacement on the iPad Air 11-inch (M2) is £499 and a battery replacement is £230, both including VAT. The diagnostic is free and carries no obligation, and every repair comes with a 12-month warranty on parts and labour. Apple lists the same £499 for this model, but Apple's published figure is before VAT, which adds around £100 at the till.

Apple quotes no separate screen price for any iPad. On Apple's pricing page a cracked screen falls under "other damage", and Apple states it must inspect the device before giving a personalised estimate. We tell you the number first.

Why this screen is not the same part as an iPad Air 5th Gen's

On paper the two panels are identical: 2360 by 1640 at 264 ppi, fully laminated, anti-reflective, True Tone, 500 nits. Apple's spec sheets match line for line. They still do not interchange, because this generation moved the front camera to the long landscape edge and the cut-out moved with it.

Anyone reasoning "it is the same screen as the Air 5" orders the wrong part and loses a week. We check the A-number on the back first: A2902 for Wi-Fi, A2903 for Wi-Fi and Cellular, A2904 for the mainland China cellular model.

Working inside a 3.5 mm margin

The repair is unusually tight. Apple's procedure sets a maximum cutting depth of 3.5 mm past the edge of the display, inside a chassis only 6.1 mm thick. Go deeper and you are into the display flex cables.

The relocated front camera sits directly under that cut line. Apple's manual tells the technician to tape over the camera lens before heating and to keep a shallow angle when cutting near it. The display comes away with heat rather than brute force, and the screws are coated with a thread adhesive that does not survive removal, so they are replaced rather than refitted.

Will a screen repair stop Touch ID working?

No. This is the most common worry we hear and it is simply not true on an iPad Air. Touch ID lives in the top button, which is a separate component from the display assembly, and it is never disconnected during a screen replacement.

Apple publishes exactly which parts it tracks, model by model. For the iPad Air the list is one item long: Touch ID. The display is not tracked, and neither is the battery. Apple's own wording on the messages you might see afterwards is that they "won't affect your ability to use your iPad". The repair that genuinely can cost you fingerprint unlock is replacing the top button itself, which is why we handle that one differently.

Check the battery before you pay for one

A battery replacement is £230 including VAT, and on this model you can check whether you need one before you spend anything. Go to Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health, and you will see Maximum Capacity and Cycle Count. Apple rates these cells to keep at least 80% of their original capacity after 1,000 full charge cycles.

Bring us those two numbers and we can tell you a lot before the device is open. Some owners report this model running warm and draining faster while handwriting with an Apple Pencil in Notes or Freeform. That is an owner-reported pattern rather than a fault Apple has acknowledged, so it is worth ruling out software before assuming the cell is tired.

Two things that are not faults

Cellular models have no SIM tray. The M2 Air is eSIM only, so if the iPad has lost mobile data the first question is how your network provisioned the eSIM, not whether a tray has broken.

This generation also dropped the Apple Pencil 2nd generation entirely. It takes the Apple Pencil Pro and the Apple Pencil (USB-C), nothing else. A Pencil that will not pair after upgrading from an older Air is usually the wrong Pencil, not a damaged digitiser.

Frequently Asked Questions - iPad Air 11-inch (M2)

How much does an iPad Air 11-inch (M2) screen replacement cost?

£499 including VAT, with a free diagnostic first and a 12-month warranty on parts and labour. Apple publishes the same £499 for this model, but Apple's figure is quoted before VAT, so the comparable Apple price is closer to £599.

Will replacing the screen stop Touch ID working on my iPad Air?

No. Touch ID sits in the top button, not in the display, and it is not disconnected during a screen replacement. Apple tracks exactly one part on an iPad Air and it is Touch ID; the display is not a tracked part. Replacing the top button itself is the repair that can affect fingerprint unlock.

Is the iPad Air 11-inch (M2) screen the same as the iPad Air 5th Gen one?

No, even though the specifications match exactly. The M2 generation moved the front camera to the landscape edge and the cut-out moved with it, so the two assemblies do not interchange. We confirm the A-number, A2902, A2903 or A2904, before ordering anything.

How do I know if my iPad Air needs a new battery?

Check Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health. It shows Maximum Capacity and Cycle Count on this model. Apple rates the cell to hold at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,000 charge cycles. Bring us those figures and we can advise before opening the device. A replacement is £230 including VAT.

My iPad Air gets warm and drains fast when I use the Apple Pencil. Is the battery failing?

Not necessarily. A number of owners have reported this model running warm and draining faster specifically while handwriting in Notes or Freeform. That is an owner-reported pattern rather than a fault Apple has acknowledged, so we rule out software before recommending a battery. The free diagnostic covers this.

My Apple Pencil will not pair after the repair. What is wrong?

Most often it is the wrong Pencil. The M2 Air does not support the Apple Pencil 2nd generation at all, only the Apple Pencil Pro and the Apple Pencil (USB-C). If you have upgraded from an older iPad Air your existing Pencil may simply not be compatible.

My cellular iPad Air has lost mobile data. Is the SIM tray broken?

There is no SIM tray to break. This model is eSIM only. Lost mobile data is usually a provisioning question for your network rather than a hardware fault, so that is the first thing we check before quoting for anything.

Can you repair my iPad Air if I am not in Haverhill?

Yes. Haverhill is our only shop, but you can post the iPad to us or use our free local collection service, and it comes back the same way. We take in plenty of work from Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding villages this way.
