iPad (A16) Repairs in Haverhill

What it costs, and the question worth asking first

There are two different screen repairs on this iPad, which is not true of any other one Apple currently sells. A full display replacement is £369 and a battery £230, VAT included, each after a free diagnostic and each under a 12-month warranty. Apple lists £369 as well, before VAT, making its comparable figure about £443.

Worth knowing too that the base iPad went from £329 to £429 in June 2026 without changing, so repairing one is better value now than it was.

Before you accept any of that, there is a question worth asking on this iPad that is pointless on the others: is the glass cracked, or is the display underneath actually damaged? On this model those are two different repairs.

This is the one iPad where the glass comes off on its own

Every iPad Air and every iPad Pro has a fully laminated display: glass, touch layer and screen bonded into one unit, so a crack anywhere means replacing the whole assembly. That is why an Air screen runs to several hundred pounds.

The base iPad is built differently and Apple treats it differently, selling the cover glass and the display as two separate service parts rather than one bonded assembly. The trade follows suit, listing a touch digitiser and an LCD as distinct products at very different prices.

There is a neat tell in how the trade catalogues it. One major wholesaler labels front glass for laminated models "glass separation required", because the glass has to be debonded from the panel. The listings for the iPad Air 11-inch, the Air 13-inch and the iPad Pro all carry that warning. The one for this iPad does not.

So if your screen is cracked but the display beneath still shows a clean, correct picture with touch working normally, say so when you book. It is a different repair from a failed display, and worth establishing before anything is quoted. If the picture is dead, discoloured, has lines through it or touch has stopped responding in places, the display itself has gone.

Your fingerprint reader is not part of the screen

Touch ID on this iPad lives in the top button, not in the display, and it is not disconnected when the screen comes off. Apple publishes exactly which parts it tracks on each model, and for the iPad (A16) the list contains one entry: Touch ID. The display is not on it and neither is the battery.

That is the opposite of an iPad Pro, where Apple does track the display itself. On this iPad a screen repair is not a security event. The repair that genuinely puts fingerprint unlock at risk is replacing the top button itself, which is a different job and one we would flag before touching.

It shares almost everything with the iPad 10th generation

Useful to know, because it is why parts are easy to get and turnaround is usually quick. Across the trade the display, digitiser, battery, camera, speaker and button flexes are sold as the same parts as the 2022 iPad 10th generation. One wholesaler files the screen under an iPad 10 product code and cross-lists it. Only Apple's own genuine parts are numbered specifically for this model.

The practical consequence is good news: this is not a model where you wait a fortnight for a panel. It also means we check the A-number rather than the year, because the two generations are close enough that a listing can be ambiguous. Yours is A3354 for Wi-Fi, A3355 or A3356 for cellular.

One quick way to tell them apart yourself: this iPad has no SIM tray at all, even on cellular, where the 2022 model has a nano-SIM tray on the right-hand edge.

A battery, and how to know before you pay

A battery replacement is £230 including VAT. As on every iPad, the display has to come off to reach it, so it is not a two-minute job, but the aftermarket cell for this device is one of the most widely stocked iPad batteries there is.

Do check the battery health reading before you commit to anything. If the capacity is still high and the cycle count modest, the problem is more likely to be software than a worn cell, and the free diagnostic will tell you which.
