Phone Security Reset in Newmarket
Scam call, remote access, or a phone that feels like someone else is on it. A full erase and clean reinstall, about an hour, £24.
Newmarket keeps unusual hours, and a phone that has been got at does not wait for the yard to go quiet.
Stable staff, stud hands and racing office people come over to us having been told by their bank to get the phone reset, usually after a call that claimed to be the fraud team and an app like AnyDesk or TeamViewer put on the phone at the caller's say-so. The job is a full erase and a clean reinstall, about an hour from handing it over, and you leave with a report for the device. Our only shop is at 3 Queen Street in Haverhill, about 25 minutes away, and there is no appointment, so it fits around a morning off or the gap between lots. Bring your Apple Account or Google Account password with you, because without it the phone cannot be set up again after the wipe. If the trip really does not suit, ask for a free tracked mail-in label instead.
How does a security reset work from Newmarket?
The reset itself is the easy part. The passwords and the backup are what people forget, and without them the phone comes back clean but empty.
Save your passwords, then back up
Your Apple Account or Google Account password first, because it is what gets you back in after the erase, then every other login you use. Check iCloud Backup or Google backup and photo sync are on before you set off: everything on the device is erased, and what comes back is what was synced.
Bring it or send it
Walk into 3 Queen Street from Newmarket or ask us for a free tracked label. No appointment needed for a walk-in.
Full erase and clean install
We wipe the device completely and reinstall the operating system fresh, so nothing a scammer installed or changed survives. About an hour.
Back to you, set up as new
You get it back running a clean install, ready to sign in with your own account. Set it up as new rather than restoring a backup from before the scam. Want us to do that part and move your data back? That is our separate Data Transfer service, £24.
What does the reset clear?
Anything that lives on the device. Remote-access apps a caller talked you into installing, apps you do not recognise, management profiles, changed settings, and whatever else was put there. The storage is erased and the operating system goes back on clean, so there is nothing for it to hide in. That includes anything you would call a virus: on a modern phone the erase destroys the encryption keys, so what was on the storage is unreadable afterwards, named or not, and the NCSC's advice for a phone that may be infected is exactly this, a factory reset rather than a scan.
What will a security reset not fix?
It does not change your passwords or secure your bank account. If someone had your phone, treat your email and banking logins as seen: change them from another device, turn on two-step verification, and speak to your bank on 159. Our guide on what to do if your phone is hacked walks through the order.

Scam calls in Newmarket
Around 70 training yards and more than 60 stud farms sit in and around Newmarket, alongside The Jockey Club, Tattersalls at Park Paddocks and the Godolphin operation at Dalham Hall Stud, so a large share of the town earns its living from horses and starts work before dawn. Add the charter market traders on the High Street on a Tuesday and Saturday, the shops in the Guineas, and families on Studlands Park and out at Exning. Scam callers do not pick by trade. Suffolk Police named Newmarket among the towns hit when courier fraud ran through West Suffolk between December 2024 and February 2025, with one or two cases a day at its peak, most of them people who trusted a voice claiming to be the bank or the police.

Newmarket security reset questions
Can I get this done between lots, or on a morning off?
That is how most Newmarket customers do it. There is no appointment, so pick the hour that suits the yard, come over to 3 Queen Street in Haverhill, and hand the phone over. It takes about an hour start to finish. If you would rather not leave the phone at all, you can wait, but there is enough time to get a coffee in town and come back.
Do you collect from Newmarket for this?
No, and for this job it is quicker not to. A collection round turns an hour into a couple of days. Walk in, or ask for a free tracked mail-in label and post it to us, which suits the stud season when nobody can get away. Either way it comes back erased, reinstalled and with its report.
The scammer had my phone for twenty minutes on screen share. Is a reset really needed?
If the bank has told you to, yes, and if it has not, we would still say so. Twenty minutes with the screen is long enough to install something, change a setting or set up forwarding you would never spot. A full erase removes anything that was put there, named or not. Delete the app on its own and you are guessing that was all they did.
What do I bring apart from the phone?
Your Apple Account or Google Account password, which the phone will ask for the moment it restarts, and a note of every other password you use, because everything on the phone is erased. Check that iCloud or Google backup is switched on before you set off so your photos and contacts come back. Passwords saved to iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager return on their own when you sign in.
My mum in Exning had the same call. Can her iPad come too?
Yes. Any phone or tablet, each erased and reported separately, so bring both on the same trip. She will need to know her own Apple Account or Google Account password for the iPad. If she would like help setting it up again afterwards and getting her photos and contacts back, that is our separate Data Transfer service, booked alongside the reset.
