Phone Security Reset in Bury St Edmunds
Scam call, remote access, or a phone that feels like someone else is on it. A full erase and clean reinstall, about an hour, £24.
Suffolk police now put fraud at more than 40 per cent of all crime recorded in the county, and a good share of it starts with a call to a phone.
People come to us from Bury St Edmunds having been told by their bank to get that phone reset, often after a stranger was handed control of the screen through an app like AnyDesk or TeamViewer. Bring it to our shop at 3 Queen Street in Haverhill, about 25 to 30 minutes away, and you can take it home clean in about an hour, erased, reinstalled and with a report for the device. There is no appointment. If you cannot get over, ask for a free tracked mail-in label. The one thing to have ready is your Apple Account or Google Account password, because the phone asks for it when it restarts and will not go further without it.
How does a security reset work from Bury St Edmunds?
The reset itself is the easy part. The passwords and the backup are what people forget, and without them the phone comes back clean but empty.
Save your passwords, then back up
Your Apple Account or Google Account password first, because it is what gets you back in after the erase, then every other login you use. Check iCloud Backup or Google backup and photo sync are on before you set off: everything on the device is erased, and what comes back is what was synced.
Bring it or send it
Walk into 3 Queen Street from Bury St Edmunds or ask us for a free tracked label. No appointment needed for a walk-in.
Full erase and clean install
We wipe the device completely and reinstall the operating system fresh, so nothing a scammer installed or changed survives. About an hour.
Back to you, set up as new
You get it back running a clean install, ready to sign in with your own account. Set it up as new rather than restoring a backup from before the scam. Want us to do that part and move your data back? That is our separate Data Transfer service, £24.
What does the reset clear?
Anything that lives on the device. Remote-access apps a caller talked you into installing, apps you do not recognise, management profiles, changed settings, and whatever else was put there. The storage is erased and the operating system goes back on clean, so there is nothing for it to hide in. That includes anything you would call a virus: on a modern phone the erase destroys the encryption keys, so what was on the storage is unreadable afterwards, named or not, and the NCSC's advice for a phone that may be infected is exactly this, a factory reset rather than a scan.
What will a security reset not fix?
It does not change your passwords or secure your bank account. If someone had your phone, treat your email and banking logins as seen: change them from another device, turn on two-step verification, and speak to your bank on 159. Our guide on what to do if your phone is hacked walks through the order.

Scam calls in Bury St Edmunds
Bury St Edmunds is the shopping and services centre for West Suffolk, and it holds a wide mix of people: professionals commuting to Cambridge and London, young families on Moreton Hall and Marham Park, just over 3,000 staff at West Suffolk Hospital, and a long-established older population within reach of the Abbey Gardens and the Wednesday and Saturday market on the Cornhill. Scam callers do not pick one of those groups. Bury was among the towns named when courier fraud ran through West Suffolk between December 2024 and February 2025, when a 90-year-old in the Bury area lost £4,000 and an 81-year-old in West Suffolk lost £106,000 plus £68,000 in gold. A nurse coming off nights and a retired couple near the cathedral can both walk into the Haverhill shop unbooked and leave with a reset phone.

Bury St Edmunds security reset questions
I work nights at the hospital. When can I bring it?
Any time we are open, with no appointment. The hours are on this page. Most shift workers from Bury come over mid-morning after a sleep or early afternoon before the next one, hand the phone over at 3 Queen Street in Haverhill, and have it back about an hour later. If getting over is the problem, the free tracked mail-in label works around any rota.
The scammers sent a courier for my bank card. Does the phone need resetting as well?
If the only thing that happened was the courier and the card, the phone is probably fine: stop the card, ring the bank on 159 and report it to Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040. But courier fraud usually starts with a long call, and if during it you read out codes, tapped a link, or let the caller walk you through the phone's settings, bring it in. We will tell you if it does not need doing.
How is this different from me pressing Erase All Content and Settings at home?
The erase itself is the same thing, and if you are comfortable doing it yourself, do. What we add is the check before it for a jailbreak, a management profile or accounts that are not yours, the independently certified erasure software, the clean reinstall of the operating system, and the report. When a bank has flagged the phone, the report is the part that is worth the trip.
Can I bring my mum's iPad and my partner's phone at the same time?
Yes. Any phone or tablet, each erased and reported separately, so it makes sense to bring everything that was touched by the same call in one go. Each owner needs to know their own Apple Account or Google Account password. If your mum would like help getting her photos and contacts back afterwards, that is our separate Data Transfer service, booked with the reset.
I would rather post it than drive. How does the label work?
Ask us and we set up a free tracked label for you to print, or if you have no printer we post you packaging with the label already attached. Put the phone in, send it, and we reset it the day it arrives and return it tracked. Keep your account password somewhere safe in the meantime; we will not ask for it, and you will need it when the phone comes home.
